So Far, So Good

9 March 2010

Today is our Wedding Anniversary – 8 years.  We were married in what could laughingly be called a garden at David’s house in Yuendumu – an Aboriginal community about 200 miles north west of Alice Springs.  And that was the nearest town. It was hot and humid (explanation for why my hair isn’t exactly looking its best!  And I can’t believe how blond I was).

We were only about the 6th couple to marry there and it was broadcast on an Aboriginal television service (in Walpiri, the local language).  After the ceremony, which practically the whole town attended, lots of us drove to the only building between Yuendumu and Alice Springs, which is a roadhouse.

We had dinner and we danced, surrounded by lots of very bemused truck drivers!

An unforgettable day and one of the more unusual weddings I’ve attended.

Thank you, David.  So far, so good.
