The NSHD Birthday Celebrations

9 March 2011

Over the years, I’ve heard of a number of research projects tracking babies into adulthood – some for sociological reasons, some to study health issues and some just because it makes good television.

But the biggest and oldest celebrates its 65th birthday this week, as do the “children” involved.  An exhibition has been mounted in the UK to celebrate this.

About 5500 babies born during one week in March 1946 in England have taken part in this project (The 1946 National Survey of Health and Development) and it’s still continuing, presumably until there are none left!

You can read all about it here and here.  It makes really fascinating reading.
