More Health and Safety

16 March 2014

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in the UK publishes its top 10 Myths – the occasions when something is banned because of “Health and Safety” but the HSE considers the ban ridiculous.  I feel rather sorry for the people who work there as they’re blamed for all sorts of ludicrous regulations and cries of “Haven’t these people got anything better to do than stop children playing conkers?” (they didn’t by the way – it was just a myth)  when most of the time they’re really only interested in HEALTH and SAFETY (ie wearing protective clothing when using acetylene burners.)

They DID NOT ban the game of pinning the tail on the donkey because of the use of drawing pins (No. 4 on their list).

And they DID NOT stop graduates from throwing their mortar boards in the air for fear of hurting a passer-by (No. 10 on the list).
